# Position Details
## Summary of Duties
This position is responsible for providing leadership, direction, and oversight of university-wide network and systems engineering, management, practices, standards, and incident management functions. This position directs the highly skilled and experienced networking and systems engineering staff. The IS Director will work closely with the Associate VP and CIO to develop and implement long-term strategic plans. Additionally, this position is responsible for consulting and support to campus and regional IT staff with networking and systems projects related to data, voice, video, networks, data-center, server, storage, cloud and related enterprise applications. Emphasis is on ensuring stability, reliability, resiliency, security, optimal performance, minimal downtime, and continually improving the overall efficiency of critical network and systems and associated security infrastructure, while growing the infrastructure to provide increased services to all statewide constituents.

# Position Qualifications
## Required Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree in computer science, telecommunications or related field and six (6) years of progressively responsible experience in computer facilities operations which has included at least two (2) years of management experience. A Masters degree in a related field may be substituted for up to one (1) year of the required experience exclusive of the management experience.
## Additional Requirements
  • A Bachelor’s degree in computer science, management information systems, or other relevant field, and ten (10) years professional experience in enterprise network and/or systems administration/engineering, of which five (5) years must have been in a leadership role. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
  • Enterprise experience working with Ethernet and other data transport technologies in local and wide area networks, with layer three and above protocols including TCP/IP, and with application and authentication protocols such as HTTP/S, LDAP/S, TACACS, RADIUS, Oracle DB, Microsoft DB, SMTP, and SSH.
  • Enterprise experience working with server and storage systems and other datacenter technologies in on-premise and remote locations, including both Microsoft Windows and Redhat/CentOS Linux, Metro fiber channel-based Storage Area Networks, clustering, local/global Traffic Managers (i.e. F5).
  • Significant experience with enterprise network switching, wireless, and routing protocols/technologies, including SDN, VXLAN, GPON, SNMP, RIP/2, OSPF, BGP, MPLS, and TACACS.
  • Demonstrated significant knowledge and experience with network and systems operations/engineering management and administration systems and tools, and with cross-disciplinary (network/server) diagnostic procedures, skills, and strategies.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills, including ability to work as part of a diverse and cross-functional team under difficult and highly stressful conditions.
  • Experience supervising highly technical and experienced personnel.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive and manage technical projects to completion on schedule, budget, and within defined scope.
  • ## Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with no direct supervision.
  • Demonstrated technical expertise in applying system and network troubleshooting and diagnostic tools and techniques in a large, heterogeneous enterprise computing environment (i.e. 35,000+ users, 500+ servers, 1000+ edge switches, and 4,000+ wireless access points, and over 100 geophysically diverse campuses).
  • Understanding of cloud-native architectures, including Kubernetes.
  • Experience with Software Defined Networking (SDN).
  • Experience developing and applying appropriate metrics for the evaluation of the performance and reliability of the University network and systems infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex ideas in a simplified way, both orally and in writing.
  • Experience detecting, responding to, and resolving networking incidents.
  • Experience with regulatory requirements concerning networking and systems infrastructure systems.
  • Demonstrated programming and scripting abilities in bash, C, Python, and/or Perl.
