Job Summary

We are seeking a Director, Data Management and Innovation for our Corporate Development group. This is a remote opportunity.

The following are responsibilities related to the Director, Data Management and Innovation position:
  • Partner with business teams across CRL to identify and prioritize business needs
  • Effectively translate business needs into requirements for data management and/or analytics solutions based on a combination of proven and emerging technology capabilities
  • Collaborate with technology partners to identify fit-for-purpose tools and solutions for data management and exploitation
  • Drive and support the use of data standards, taxonomies and semantic capabilities within the overall organization
  • Work with teams to manage, process, explore, exploit and visualize large, diverse and complex datasets
  • Build, lead and nurture a team of talented data management staff and data scientists to solve difficult, non-routine analytics problems
  • Identify and communicate challenges in data quality and completeness, impacts to analytics outcomes, and support best practices to address these gaps
  • Mentor data and business teams dedicated to the Data Science practice, within our data strategy and mission, working alongside the teams that build our data tools and infrastructure.
  • Working across our embedded community of data Owners, Scientists and Engineers — and partnering closely with business Strategy and operations teams — to develop processes to optimize the discovery, generation and curation of data to a state suitable for insights and analytics.
  • By engaging across disciplines to develop data management practices that’s easy to adopt and consume. Identify, design and facilitate an evolving set of data management principles, tools, knowledge and behaviors to produce and manage data assets for insights across the company.
  • Ensure the data readiness for insights at CRL, by working across the entire data preparation workflow, including generating data through its lifecycle, normalizing data into easy to query and provision to analyze.
  • Work with data owners and scientists to cultivate a shared practice for defining data collection requirements across all of our domains. Partner with technology and infrastructure teams to ensure effective implementation of controls for managing these prioritized assets across our business lines.
  • Work with dedicated data operation teams to identify opportunity to produce datasets in a harmonized and cost effective way.
  • Lead the data architecture design, modeling data across the company and helping teams to identify and design data interoperable with their business context to iterate on and build world-class analytics models using a combination of statistical, mathematical, signal processing, and machine learning approaches
  • Work cross-functionally with data consumers and teams to effectively summarize and communicate business value and outcomes of data initiatives to the business stakeholders
  • Collaborate with data management colleagues and business leaders to develop and execute CRL’s data strategy and roadmap.

Job Requirements

The following are job requirements for the Director, Data Management and Innovation position:
  • Advanced degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., modeling, statistics, computational sciences, biological engineering, computer science, applied mathematics and/or similar domains) or equivalent practical experience
  • 10-12 years of data management, analytics and modeling leadership, with at least 5-7 years of hands-on experience working with business partners, technical teams and operational staff.
  • Working experience in life sciences industry ( as an employee or consultant) with experience in CRO business processes
  • Demonstrated experience in Information and data management processes and solutions
  • Demonstrated experience with exploratory data analysis, statistical modeling, signal processing and/or AI/machine learning.
  • Demonstrated leadership and management experience
  • Demonstrated domain experience with preclinical/scientific/environmental data, informatics and/or related areas
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
