We are seeking a highly dynamic, collaborative, analytical, and digital-savvy Creative Director to join our growing marketing team. Reporting to the VP of Marketing and working closely with our VP of Product Design and Director of Editorial Design, you’ll own the brand identity, narrative, and all marketing creative for Medium, working with cross-functional teams to ensure consistency of brand representation across all platforms. This is an outstanding opportunity for a hands-on, innovative leader excited to develop a creative vision from the ground up!

What will you do?
    • Lead marketing creative strategy for Medium, owning brand identity, creative toolkit, messaging, and marketing collateral for both on & off-platform use
    • Differentiate our brand through best-in-class creative that delivers on both emotional and functional messaging to drive affinity and growth
    • Shape positioning and messaging not only for Medium as a whole, but for distinct audiences of readers, writers, and publishers
    • Revamp and evolve our brand book and creative toolkit, crafting brand attributes, descriptors, tone of voice, copy, logos, color palette, visual design system, and brand guidelines
    • Implement a data-first approach to creative, utilizing data to both inform and evaluate creative, continuously learning and iterating based on performance
    • Translate brand and product marketing briefs into creative briefs, ensuring final creative delivers on the needs of the business
    • Ideate outside-the-box, ground-breaking creative concepts for strategies that builds, converts, and ignites our fan-base
    • Develop best-in-class creative for a wide range of brand touch-points and campaigns, including landing pages, email, digital ads, social, videos, events, and more
    • Own end-to-end creative production process, from brief through final delivery/trafficking. Build efficient project management / operations processes for the creative team
    • Partner with product and editorial design to ensure campaigns are executed across all channels, including product, email, social, and off-platform marketing.
    • Lead, hire, and mentor a team of marketing designers and copywriters, engaging freelance and agency resource as needed

Who are you?
    • 8-10 years experience developing brand/marketing creative, ideally both in-house and at an agency. Experience at a digital/subscription business strongly preferred
    • Proven experience defining brand identity for either a new or transforming brand
    • Experience building and leading high-performance creative teams
    • Experience in cross-functional organizations, managing design implementation across platforms (experience working on product design a huge plus)
    • You understand the latest digital trends and formats, how to optimize creative for each, and have a test & learn approach
    • Proven experience translating brand briefs into campaigns that deliver on key brand/business goals
    • Portfolio of creative campaigns and work required to be considered

This position is based in our New York office, remote locations also considered.
